The Water Crisis

Across the Acholi sub-region, women and children walk up to four hours each day to fetch water from open swamps and cattle ponds. Waterborne disease is one of the top three causes of child mortality. A single borehole serves 500 people for 20 years.

Why boreholes

Boreholes tap clean water 30–60 metres underground, safe from surface contamination. One well replaces a 4-hour daily walk with a 15-minute one — and returns girls to school in the process.

What a well costs

A full borehole runs about $8,000 — siting survey, drilling rig time, casing, hand pump, apron, and community training. We publish every metre drilled, so donors see exactly what their contribution funded.
